Do not blind people from the importance of new constituencies

On Thursday, parliament approved the creation of new 47 constituencies with intent to bring service delivery nearly.

New Vision on 3rd august 2020, published a headline claiming that the creation of new constituencies is intended to favor the big politicians.

The article was entirely biased and clearly indicated insufficient knowledge by the writers.  The writers insinuated that the creation of the constituencies is to form the electoral base for the incumbents to grip onto power. I find that outrageously lacking the real gist and importance of this development.

Whereas the writer says that its relief for the incumbent, it is also a test of time for them. Anyone can lose an election any time anywhere.

The story is skewed and biased. Some of the Political personalities that the paper claims to be placed to advantage include; the Vice President Rt. Hon Ssekandi, Otafire, Ogwang, and more others.

Politicking the creation of constituencies and blinding the public from seeing all the benefits that come with it is not patriotic.

Whereas a section of people may call it gerrymandering, the electorate has a role to determine the outcomes of the elections in those specific areas.  Therefore instead of pointing guns to individuals, there should be more empowerment to the voters so that democracy takes its course.

We should not forget the fact that elders and community leaders have continuously petitioned government for the creation of political demarcations for inclusive service delivery. An example is elders of Usuk constituency.
