Police in Kampala have arrested Anthony Twinomujuni, commonly known as Bobi Young, a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, for illegally being in possession of military attire and equipment.

According to a statement released by the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, Bobi Young was arrested on Thursday, May 23, 2024, in an ongoing operation against the illegal possession of security attire and equipment.

“Security agencies have today carried out an intelligence-led operation at the home of one Twinomijuni Anthony, commonly known as Bobi Young, a resident of Mutungo Zone II, Nakawa Division, in Kampala. He was arrested,” the statement read in Part.

He added that after searching his premises, items like ranks resembling those of a UPDF 4 Star General, Walk Talkie, berets resembling those of military police, and two pairs of desert military shoes were found.

Onyango further stated that Bobi Young has been charged with illegal possession of government stores and inciting violence.

He revealed that the culprit has been handed over to the Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force (JATT) for further management.

The arrest follows a public outcry over the continued misuse of military attire, especially by members of the NUP, who have turned it a norm to don military-like fatigue.

Recently, security agencies warned that anyone who continues to illegally possess military attire will face the law. Under the UPDF Act, Section 164, anyone found guilty of putting on a military outfit can face up to seven years of imprisonment upon conviction by the courts of law.
