A top presenter at Point FM Radio in Mubende Town has been fired by the management following continuous airing of diversionary information about the Ebola outbreak in Kassanda and Mubende Districts.

Sources from Mubende indicate that Bashir Mutumbwe aka Africa the host of “MUGOBANSONGA” program on 105.1 Point FM was allegedly dismissed indefinitely from the radio station on the evening of Tuesday, 8th November 2022 for continuously telling people that there is no Ebola in the region.

Following prior several warnings to the Radio station from authorities about the presenter, the radio Manager Sam Balaba Magala fired Mutumbwe.

The locals and authorities in Mubende District said that Mutumbwe aka Africa has continuously been spreading diversionary and hate messages. They cited one of the shows he hosted on 19th October this year, in which he unfoundedly accused government of plotting to kill the District LCV Ntambi Micheal.

Who is Mutumbwe Bashir?

Mutumbwe Bashir commonly known as ‘Africa’ is a 35-year-old Rwandan immigrant who has been staying in Gomba District and working at point FM without a work permit according to the station manager.

Mutumbwe has been illegally working as a radio presenter at Hon. Theodore Sekikubo’s 105.1 Point FM where he has been hosting a popular program “Mugobansonga” that airs from Monday to Friday between 7:00 am and 9:00 am.

At the time of his dismissal, it is alleged that Mutumbwe had previously been cautioned by Uganda Communications Commission over his unprofessional and unethical conduct on air.

According to the Mubende District Ebola Task Force leaders, the firing of Bashir should act as a warning to members of the public who are faulting the fight against Ebola. The Task force leaders said that such people need to be apprehended and charged for putting people’s lives at risk.
