The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and Uganda Police Force have sealed off Kwata Zone, Komamboga, Kawempe Division, Kampala, following intelligence of the presence of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the area.

Maj. Charles Kabona, spokesperson for the UPDF First Division, stated that the devices were discovered in a residence rented by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

“Today we’re in Kwata, Komamboga, and Kawempe Divisions. We have been informing people that we have certain negative elements or terrorists, particularly from the ADF, who are attempting to destroy our country, kill our people with bombs, and commit assassinations,” Kabona stated.

Kabona also confirmed that four bombs have been discovered alongside other military ammunition, bullets, magazines, and other items that belong to the military. He added that the experts are working to make sure they detonate the bombs.

“So far, one has been safely detonated, and we are in the process of detonating others,” he added.

According to Kabona, the information gathered shows that the people who rented the houses in Komamboga are the same ones being looked for by the security agencies.

“Security forces have previously arrested a number of ADF suspects, including Augustine Kalanzi, who was arrested from Masaka, while Suleiman Nsubuga and Swalleh Abibaker were apprehended from Busia and Zambia, respectively,” Maj. Kabona said.

“Since they are in our custody, during interrogation, they provided information leading to the raid at this house,” Maj. Kabona added.

However, Maj. Kabona stated that no one was found in the house and that the suspects are at large. He urged members of the public to be vigilant and report suspected negative elements to the authorities.

Kabona assured the public that the operation to arrest the terrorists has been going on, not only in Uganda but also outside the boundaries of Uganda. He further assured that the joint security forces will make sure that these criminals are identified, isolated, and arrested.
