PLE and UCE finalists are stuck in schools after the completion of their final exams. Parents cannot pick their children from school and in the same way; children cannot leave the school premises. This is due to the current restrictions levied on Mubende and Kassanda Districts, stating that people cannot leave or enter the district due to the current Ebola crisis. On the other hand, schools have said they cannot keep students in schools after finishing their exams. They call upon Government to intervene and help with transportation of students back to their homes.

US Ambassador to Uganda Natalie Brown has called for a continued discussion on actions to end stigma and discrimination towards people living with HIV.

The Commander of Kampala Metropolitan Police, Steven Tanui has directed for the arrest of all civilians who are impounding motorcycles, and be charged with impersonation. The Commander also ordered that traffic operations on boda bodas should  be carried out by Police Officers in uniform led by Traffic personnel. He has further warned police officers using civilians to apprehend boda boda riders.

The Minister of Local Government Raphael Magyezi has blasted Bugisu local leaders for selling off Government properties saying the sub region ranks number one in the vice. The case in which 200 Rwenzururu Kingdom loyalists, including King Charles Wesley Mumbere, face murder related charges failed to proceed yesterday because the 49 suspects, who were attending virtually from three different prisons, were unable to follow the proceedings due to internet breakdown. The suspects include Rwenzururu guards and women who have been on remand in Luzira, Kasese and Jinja prisons since 2016. When the trial began before Justice Alice Khaukha, the suspects could neither hear nor respond to what was going on in the court.

Police at Old Kampala carried out an intelligence-led operation in Namungoona and arrested eleven suspects, where they recovered a toy pistol. According to police, the operation was conducted at Namungona II after they received information from a reliable source that someone had been seen with a gun in a bar. “A team of police officers were tasked to follow up the information and went up to the bar where one black plastic toy gun, mairungi and a bag of fresh opium were recovered at Ewa Nico Note Bar,” police said.

The Ministry of Health has approved the use of dapivirine vaginal ring (DRV) and long acting injectable cabotegravir (CAB-LA) as additional optional drugs for preventing HIV/Aids infection in Uganda. Currently, HIV-negative individuals rely on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) where they take a pill on a daily basis to lower the risk of becoming HIV-positive when exposed to the virus.

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), with support from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is to construct a Traffic Control Centre aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the city. This will make Kampala the first city in East Africa to have such a smart facility. At least approximately Shs63 billion is to be spent on the project that is expected to be completed in 30 months from 8th November 2022.

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) under the Uganda Farmers Common Voice Platform (UFCVP) have rallied behind President Museveni’s stance on the Genetic Engineering Regulatory Bill 2018.They have demanded that the proposed law should be redrafted to cater for the safety of users and beneficiaries. In December 2018, President Museveni rejected the Bill passed by Parliament and sent it back to the House. Speaking to the media in Kampala yesterday, Mr. Barbra Ntambirweki, a lawyer from Africa Technology assessment platform, said CSOs have urged legislators to put emphasis on the safety of the users and beneficiaries during the redrafting process.

The District Agriculture Officer revealed that government through the Ministry of Water will construct Kibwera small scale irrigation scheme under MAAIF program. The irrigation scheme will cost over Shs30m, and farmers can achieve their dream of transforming subsistence farming into market-oriented farming by achieving irrigated agricultural products through the micro-scale irrigation systems.

The Kasese District Engineer has revealed that the 7.5 kilometers length Rwesande, Kabagaga, Kirabaho road is under construction. Authorities in Kabale district are decrying limited road maintenance funds, saying that most of the roads have not been maintained in the last 2021/2022 financial year. The Masaka City Ebola taskforce has expressed concern about lack of health volunteers to attend to contacts of the disease in the area. According to Dr. Gonzaga Ssenyondo, the chairperson of the Ebola taskforce in Masaka, most medics they have approached are reluctant to take part in managing the contacts. “There is limited manpower willing to work because most of the health workers have no experience in Ebola management and they fear contracting the deadly virus,” he said.

Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Tuesday said India will continue buying Russian oil as it is advantageous for the country. This was during his first visit to Russia since it invaded Ukraine.

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake has struck Nepal, killing at least six people, injuring several others, and destroying multiple houses in the northwestern district of Doti.

The earthquake, which hit at about 2am local time on Wednesday (20:15 GMT), sent tremors into northern India.
