The Commander Engineers Brigade, Brig Gen. Besigye Bekunda, has praised the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) for increasing the income of the communities and thus improving the standard of living.

According to Bekunda, this has been achieved by providing employment opportunities during the modification of the passenger terminal building at Entebbe International Airport.

He made the remarks on November 16, 2023, during the inspection of the progress of the construction works at the airport.

Bekunda commended the construction works at the new passenger terminal for involving mostly specialised engineering works like new designs and construction that will make it the best in Africa and the world at large.

Major General Leopold Kyanda, the Joint Chief of Staff who led the inspection, commended the work of the UPDF Engineers Brigade on the modification of the passenger terminal building at Entebbe International Airport.

“The Engineers Brigade has been able to beat the deadline and deliver good work. When we use our own, the supervision becomes very easy, hence producing good work,” Kyanda said.

He added that this is in keeping with the presidential order that UPDF engineers be granted some government projects since they are more capable of handling them as compared to private contractors.

The works at Entebbe International Airport commenced on May 25, 2022, and are expected to be completed by January 2, 2024. The current physical progress stands at 95%.
