A mechanization system has been developed by Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) to transmit student-based assessments under the new lower secondary curriculum unlike the old curriculum which releases solely on final senior four’s and senior six’s examination.

According to Jennifer Kalule the UNEB spokesperson, in spite of the fact that school-based scores were meant to be submitted from the beginning, this didn’t happen due to the fact that the curriculum was adopted before most of the necessary mechanization was in place.

Schools will transmit continuous assessment scores via the UNEB portal starting with the first term of the new academic year, according to Kalule.

“We have finalized the modernization of the ICT and they are going to use the portal because all schools that have UNEB center numbers have portals. So, we are going to be using the portals to submit the results,” she said.

According to UNEB, the classroom assessments will account for 20% of the final National Examination in the new O-level curriculum.

However, Kalule says that the board is already working on modalities to ensure that schools without center numbers are also included in the system to enable them transmit their results to the portal.

The Ministry and relevant agencies including UNEB will provide guidance to schools and parents on how the system will be handled.
