Police Officer Shot While Intercepting Stolen Vehicle from Kenya

A police officer has been shot while attempting to intercept a stolen Toyota Land Cruiser (Reg.No. KDH790K) from Kenya. The incident took place on November 9, 2023 near the central Lira Police station, leaving the officer, identified as Tony Ebong, injured in the stomach. Ebong is currently receiving treatment at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

According to Patrick Jimmy Okema, the spokesperson for North Kyoga police, a joint operation involving regular police and flying squad operatives has been launched after receiving information about the stolen vehicle. A checkpoint has been established in Adwali cell, Boroboro Ward, Lira City division, to apprehend the suspects.

“One of the occupants of the vehicle has escaped, we appeal to the community members. If cited kindly apprehend and hand him over to the nearest police station for Further management,” Okema requested.

While the stolen vehicle has been recovered, law enforcement is prioritizing the capture of the escaped suspect for further investigation and management.

The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges related to cross-border crime and highlights the need for continued collaboration between security agencies in tackling such incidents.
