Police have issued strict guidelines that will be followed by 1,430 venues cleared to display fireworks in the New Year’s celebrations on December 31st.

The guidelines were issued yesterday December 28th 2022, at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.

According to ASP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, only licensed contractors under the Explosive Acts will be allowed to take charge of displaying fireworks and they should follow the standard procedures.

Enanga explained that territorial police commanders have been urged to look out for organizers who set fireworks outside the permitted times which can be dangerous to the public.

“We have asked our commanders to ensure that they review and approve the location of proposed fireworks discharge sites, they should supervise and guide the operators to set up the display prior to setting up the display, during the discharge and after the discharge. At their discretion the commanders have the authority to suspend or terminate the display of the fireworks due to weather or other grounds,” he said.

However, according to Enanga, the venues cleared to display the fireworks should inform the neighborhood through media and local authorities.

Fireworks will be displayed in selected hotels, gardens and places of worship among others in every district of the country.
