Minister Muyingo Asks Public Universities Staff To Stay Calm

The state minister for higher education John Chrysostom Muyingo has asked the public to stay calm following the announcement by staff from all public universities to down their tools next semester.

We have been in discussion with the representatives of the both groups and the ministry is ready to come up with the lasting solutions.” Minister Muyingo told a press conference at media Center on Tuesday .

Both the teaching and non-teaching staff from 9 public university yesterday vowed not to return to the lecture halls next semester which kicks off in January 2019 until their 29.5 billion and 4.3 billion over claims that government failed to honor its promise is a breach of trust. They said they are not ready to continue with teaching unless a comprehensive agreement of remitting their arrears is reached.

The impending industrial action is a friendly move, they are just sounding a warning to Government but they are open for any discussion” said Nyeko Edward Kyambogo University lecturer and the vice chairman of the union.

Andrew Aboyang Kyambogo University support staff, thanked Government for having fulfilled its past promise.”we have received 60% of what was promised initially,we are only saying that our arrears were released by cabinet in the last financial year but we have not received it”

President Museveni in 2016 told tricking lectures that his government has been steadily increasing the salary of lecturers and does not understand why the lecturers cannot be patient as government tries to resolve their issues.
