The government has pledged to send a special force to guard the King of Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu, Charles Wesley Mumbere, in place of royal guards, who were involved in a feud at the kingdom palace in 2016.

During an interview on Monday, Joseph Kule Muranga, the Obusinga  prime minister, disclosed that the government pledged assistance to train a special force to guard King Mumbere as part of efforts to rebrand the monarchy. According to Muranga, the presence of royal guards in their kingdom is illegal because they are not included in the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu constitution of 2000 or the Ugandan Constitution of 1995.

He claimed that surrounding the monarch with royal guards was a mistake.
“How do you raise an army that has no salaries? In the new rebranding of the kingdom, we shall not have these royal guards, the government will provide specially trained people who will guard the king as is the case with other kingdoms,” said Mr. Muranga.
