Government to Compensate Victims of Cattle rustling in Lango Sub-Region

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has expressed government’s commitment to compensate victims of Cattle rustling in Lango sub-region.

President Museveni made the remarks on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 while meeting with leaders from Lango sub-country over the problem of cattle rustling.

In his speech, the President said that government will assist victims of cattle raids in Lango and Acholi sub-regions. He directed Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny, the State Minister in Charge of Northern Uganda to coordinate with the relevant authorities to have all the affected persons documented and given relief aid.

“The State Minister In-Charge of Northern Uganda will coordinate with all the relevant authorities to document all the affected persons, for them to receive relief aid,” the President said.

The President added that the school going children that were affected by cattle rustling will be allowed to study for free in government schools until the situation normalizes.

“On the issue of the school going children affected by cattle rustling, they should be allowed to study for free in government schools until the situation normalizes,” he added.

President Museveni confirmed that cattle rustling problem will be defeated since they have already identified the gaps raiders take advantage of, and promised to close them.

The President revealed that he will be concluding engagements on the cattle rustling issue by holding a meeting with leaders from Karamoja sub region.

The districts of Lango sub-region include; Alebtong, Amolatar, Apac, Dokolo, Lira, Kole, Oyam, Otuke, Lira City and Kwania.
