Former Kabweri MP Barnabas Gonahasa dies

Francis Barnabas Gonahasa, the former Kabweri County, Kibuku District Member of Parliament, died on June 25, 2023.

According to the deceased’s son, David Gonahasa, the father breathed his last on Sunday morning, and the cause of the death is not yet known.

Francis Gonahasa was a member of the 10th parliament and attempted to return to the 11th parliament as an independent candidate but was defeated by an NRM’s, David Stephen Mauku.

The deceased served as a shadow Agricultural minister in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), and in the 10th parliament, he always pushed for an increased budget for the agricultural sector and the need to improve food security, especially in rural areas.  His supporters also praised him for using his own funds to provide electricity in some parts of the Kabweri Constituency.

The late Gonahasa was the son of the late Bishop Lucas Gonahasa, who served as the assistant to the Bishop of Kampala from 1981 to 1997.
