Opposition commentators have been widely left excited by the recent United States sanctions on former Police Inspector General, Kale Kayihura on various charges. According to these people, the charges are an indictment on the current government and those that have and continue to serve it.

First of all, Kale Kayihura is already facing a wide range of charges before the Military court martial and at best, these charges re enforce the government’s case against the disgraced general. If Anything, the US government is late to the party.

Secondly, the government of Uganda owes no one a statement explaining itself on the matter. The US is a sovereign state and have the right to charge any one they see fit at their own digression.
What however shouldn’t be happening is Kayihura employing large armies of social media influencers and journalist to drag the government along with him on his way down.

The government of the US should also give a chance to Ugandan institutions in which it has heavily invested in many ways to have a chance to serve their purpose.

The US is a strong and committed partner to Uganda on many fronts, the relationship of the two is unlikely to be affected in any way by this minor skirmish. Government detractors can dream all they want, but their records are not either.

The Army court martial has already successfully tries Kales former cronies like Abdu Kitata and many more are waiting to be tried and have justice delivered for the bereaved.
