Residents of Katabi Division in Entebbe Municipality are reeling from the effects of heavy downpours that caused widespread disruption on Sunday morning, April 14, 2024.

The storm, accompanied by strong winds, wreaked havoc on buildings, perimeter walls, feeder roads, and crops.

The most significant damage was reported in Kitubulu and Abayita Ababiri villages, where the downpour rendered the Kampala-Entebbe Highway impassable at Abayita Ababiri. Traffic flow was paralyzed for several hours on Monday morning, between 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM, forcing police to divert vehicles to the Old Entebbe Road.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported during the storm, according to Hassan Yusufu, the Kitubulu L.C.1 Chairperson, who spoke to the media.

However, the material losses are estimated to be in the millions. Yusufu urged the Uganda National Roads Authority to prioritize the rehabilitation of the Old Entebbe Road to ensure it can effectively handle emergencies like this one.
