The President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (Western Sahara), His Excellency Brahim Ghali, is in Uganda for an official visit on the invitation of his Ugandan counterpart, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

H.E. Ghali was received at State House Entebbe yesterday evening by President Museveni, who in his speech added, “We discussed issues of mutual interest, and I look forward to strengthening our relations. I wish him a good stay in the pearl of Africa.”

The creation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic was proclaimed on February 27, 1976, as the Polisario declared the need for a new entity to fill what they considered a political void left by the departing Spanish colonizers.

The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) has a temporary capital in Tifariti. The seat of the SADR government is in the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf, Algeria.

The SADR maintains diplomatic relations with 45 United Nations states and is a full member of the African Union. With a population of about half a million, it is the most sparsely populated country in Africa and the second-most sparsely populated country in the world.
