Ugandans are getting more anxious about bringing home their first ever Grammy after Kenzo’s maiden nomination in November last year. The sensational singer keeps raising the Ugandan flag high through his undoubtedly flourishing music career and the Grammy nomination has put him in the Ugandan historical books.

Idirisa Musuuza alias Eddy kenzo set a tough precedent after he became the first Ugandan and East African in a long time to be nominated for the prestigious award. His recording, Gimme Love, was nominated for a Grammy award for best Global music performance. Kenzo shares the nomination with co-performer American Matt B.

However, the Ugandan musician will face a tough hurdle as he’s set to challenge other superstars for the award in the category of Best Global Music Performance. The Sitya Loss singer will face the likes of Burna Boy whose hot single ‘Last Last’ has been a worldwide household hit. The others in the same category include; Rocky Dawuni and Blvk H3ro (Ghana) of Neva Bow Down, “Bayethe,” by Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode.

This isn’t Uganda’s first international award nomination as Kenzo has received various nominations and accolades internationally. Kenzo first received international recognition in 2015 after his single, “Sitya Loss” whose viral video earned him a BET Award.

Ugandans have placed their hopes in Kenzo to bring the prestigious accolade home like he did in 2015 where he was the underdog in the category but managed to beat the likes of South Africa’s Cassper Nyovest, Ghana’s Mz Vee and three from the UK in George The Poet, MIC Lowry and Novelist to the“Best New International Artist”  award.

Kenzo will join the very few Africans to have the most sought after global Music award if he wins in his category.

This year’s Recording Academy awards will be held on Sunday, 5th February at the Crypto-com Arena in Los Angeles, USA.
