Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Joseph Wandera has been arrested over the alleged murder of his fiancée, identified as Subi Busingye, on December 5th, 2022, while returning home from an outing at Lugogo Rugby Club in Kampala.

SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, said that the suspect walked to the Jinja Road Police Station, claiming that his girlfriend had slipped and fallen into one of the open manholes next to the Umeme transformer along Jinja Road at around 2 a.m. The suspect is being held at Jinja Road CPS.

“When he reported the matter at Jinja Road Police Station, we sent the homicide team, but when they reached, it was found that there was blood around the manhole, and we also found the shoes scattered around. If someone had fallen, they wouldn’t have found such traces of evidence that there was a struggle between the suspect and the deceased,” he said.

He explained that the body of the deceased was recovered in the channel about a kilometre away, toward Bugolobi, after being swept away by running water.

According to SCP Enanga, the deceased body was taken to the city mortuary, and when a post-mortem was carried out, it was found that she died as a result of strangulation.

Police preliminary findings show that the couple developed misunderstandings along the way when the deceased threatened to leave the relationship, resulting in a fight.
