The opposition Democratic Party (DP) President General Norbert Mao has blasted fellow opposition politician Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, referring to his National Unity Platform (NUP) party as a political scam and a hindrance to the rule of law.

Mao, who also doubles as the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, revealed that Bobi Wine and the NUP party are operating illegally without a valid constitution.

According to Minister Mao, the available document that the party uses as its constitution recognizes Moses Kibalama as the party’s president and not Bobi Wine.

“A political party leader who’s not recognized by the party constitution is more of a dictator. The party constitution cannot be a secret document; at least your members should know what is governing them, and that is the constitution,” Mao said.

Mao said this while responding to the different media statements made by NUP leaders trashing the possibility of holding negotiations between the opposition and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) on issues of national importance.

The DP President challenged Bobi Wine and fellow opposition politicians to put into practice what they preach on different media outlets and at public gatherings.

“You cannot give what you don’t have. How can you give democracy to Ugandans when you don’t have it inside your organization?” Mao wondered.

He said that since its inception, the NUP has failed to offer alternative governance but instead has heavily invested in political intolerance.
