The Bishop of Central Buganda Diocese, Rt. Rev. Michael Lubowa, has called upon the populace to stop politicizing every project brought by the government and should also embrace being counted for the betterment of the country. As the census activities continue in Gomba district, the bishop expressed his concern regarding the misconceptions and political biases surrounding the exercise.

During an interview with journalists on May 14, 2024, at the Buganda Central Diocese headquarters in Kasaka, Rt. Rev. Lubowa revealed that he had encountered many individuals claiming that the census exercise would only benefit President Museveni’s government and that there were hidden agendas behind it. However, the bishop clarified that these notions were untrue and highlighted the importance of the census in planning for the country’s future development.

“The populace should take this census exercise seriously and be counted because even in the Bible, the census was carried out during the time of Caesar Augustus, when Mary was pregnant with Jesus,” Rt. Rev. Lubowa emphasized.

He explained that the biblical census required individuals to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem, emphasizing the significance of participation.

Addressing the concerns raised about hidden agendas, Bishop Lubowa reaffirmed that the census would help the country plan accordingly and foster development. He urged the public to approach the exercise with a positive mindset, despite the challenges faced by enumerators.

The bishop stressed the importance of providing accurate information during the census. He highlighted that giving incorrect information would be a disservice to the individuals themselves rather than the government.

The Bishop of Central Buganda Diocese’s call to avoid political biases and embrace the census has resonated with many members of the public in Gomba district. As the exercise continues, local communities are considering his words, ensuring their active participation for the collective benefit of the nation.

The government census activities are set to continue across Gomba district in the coming days. With the support of religious leaders and community influencers like Bishop Lubowa, it is expected that more individuals will understand the significance of being counted and contribute to a more accurate representation of the population.

It is hoped that the message of the bishop will encourage citizens to set aside political biases and understand the importance of accurate census data in planning for a brighter future for Uganda as a whole.
