The Venezuelan Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Fatima Fernandes Juarez, has affirmed her country’s keenness to strengthen economic ties with Uganda as they prepare to host the first Joint Commission of Cooperation meeting in the capital Caracas in September 2024.
Ambassador Fernandes made the affirmation on March 19, 2024, while meeting with the Permanent Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, at the Ministry Headquarters in Kampala.
She said that the purpose of her visit was to follow up on the decision to establish a Joint Commission of Cooperation with Uganda.
“Venezuela is keen to strengthen economic ties with Uganda, and the Venezuelan government is ready to host the first Joint Commission of Cooperation meeting in Caracas in the month of September 2024,” she said.
Ambassador Fernandes added that there are many tremendous opportunities that need to be explored to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries in areas of mining and minerals, education (offering scholarships in mining), tourism and agriculture, and strengthening South-South cooperation.
On his part, PS Bagiire welcomed Ambassador Fernandes’s proposal and reiterated Uganda’s readiness to attend the Joint Commission of Cooperation meeting to explore more areas of interest for both governments. He went on to say that the ministry will ensure its success and reiterated Uganda’s commitment to strengthening relations with Venezuela.
Mr. Bagire concluded the meeting by stating that he looks forward to a continuous working relationship with Venezuela in order to achieve shared objectives.
The Uganda-Venezuela bilateral relationship stems from way back in 1970 and has been growing steadily to see increased corperation in areas of trade, mineral exploration, and agriculture, among others.
