Police in Masaka City have arrested a total of 22 workers of Super-Life Company over allegation of human trafficking in the region.
The suspects were picked up from their offices at Muteesa Plaza after being accused of illegally mobilizing and recruiting youths into fraudulent employment and business schemes on Monday.
SCP Fred Enanga, the police Spokesperson, said that the suspects are being detained at Masaka Central Police Station pending investigations and will be produced to court on charges of aggravated trafficking in persons.
Enanga added that the suspects have been targeting S.4 and S.6 leavers from the Western region and introducing to them various employment and scholarship packages to defraud through registration fees.
He identified the suspects as Amon Ayebazibwe, Nicholas Kamugisha, Moreen Atukwase, Mercy Nishaba, Shadida Atuhaire, and Ambrose Agaba, among others.
A total of 98 complaints were received from different victims of fraudulent recruitment and employment.
“As the Joint Security Agencies, we want to reaffirm our commitment to combating human trafficking networks to help mitigate the risks of labor exploitation,” Enanga said.
