The Uganda Police Force in Busoga East is on a manhunt for a 55-year-old man who hacked his wife to death on April 19, 2024, in Namoni village in Namoni parish, Mayuge district.

The deceased, identified as Alizat Naikoba, aged 45, was hacked to death by her husband, Alimansi Kiggundu. They were both residents of Namoni village in Mayuge district.

While addressing the public at the police headquarters in Naguru on April 22, 2024, SCP Fred Enanga, the spokesperson for the Uganda Police Force, revealed that it was raining so heavily on April 19, 2024, so Kiggundu took advantage of this, entered the house, and started having an argument with his late wife, which then escalated into a fight, and then he grabbed a panga, hacked his wife to death in front of his kids, and ran away.

‘’It is so painful that Kiggundu did such a heartbreaking act in front of his kids and inflicted multiple deep cuts on Naikoba’s head and hands while using a panga and then left her to bleed out to death and escape from the village,’’ SCP Enanga narrated.

Naikoba’s body was taken to the Kityerera Health IV mortuary for a postmortem examination.

A number of men who had previously worked as fishermen have lost their jobs, which has resulted in a loss of dignity and a tendency to use violence to maintain control over their spouses. This economic downturn has also been linked to the high frequency of domestic violence cases in the area.

The Uganda Police Force Spokesperson added that police have put up a serious manhunt for Kiggundu, and once he is arrested, he will be charged with murder and domestic violence.

SCP Enanga further called upon the people in the community to help the police with any information about the suspect so that he can be booked quickly.
