Three suspected robbers have been identified by a witch doctor in Apac district on May 16, 2023, over a robbery in Mutunda village, Kakwokwo parish, Mutunda Sub County-Kiryandongo district.

According to local authorities, the robbery occurred on Friday night, May 12, 2023, when suspected thieves identified as David Isingoma, 23, Francis Okwera, 25, and Moses Owiny, 21, broke into a bar belonging to 34-year-old Okello Martin and stole a TV screen and drinks.

Local authorities revealed that Okello hired Butalega, a well-known witch doctor from Apac district, who performed rituals that aided in identifying all the culprits.

“Okello hired a witch doctor from Apac who came and performed his rituals. In return, the thieves and whoever drunk on any of the stolen drinks started acting up and lost consciousness. They were asked to pay a fine of five million shillings,” the authorities said.

The local authorities said that Badru Acede, a 28-year-old, and Gerald Akenda, a 27-year-old, who had drunk some of the stolen drinks, were fined and later released from the bondage of the witch doctor; however, Isingoma passed on the next morning.

An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity said that Owiny’s father was asked to pay money in order to save his son, and Owiny is currently getting better. However, his counterpart, Okwera, whose parents refused to pay the fine, is currently in critical condition.
