A 110-year-old man has murdered his wife over a refusal of conjugal rights.

According to the report by the Rwizi region territorial police, Babiiha Dominic, a 110-year-old peasant, stabbed to death Bakasisa Constansio, a 109-year-old woman, in Kahunga 1 cell, Kahunga Parish, Ntungamo s/county, and Ntungamo District.

Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Samson Kasasira, says that on December 14, 2023, after their supper, Babiiha requested the deceased to join him in his bedroom and sleep, but she refused, saying that she was weak and had a cough.

“The suspect went to his bedroom to sleep, but he was not happy about it. Bakasisa, the deceased, and her two great-grandchildren also went to her bedroom and slept,” Kasasira stated.

Police say that in the morning of December 15, at about 7:00 a.m., one of the great granddaughters, Ankunda Winnie, 10, who had slept with Bakasisa, heard the suspect alarmingly say that he could not die alone. She then came out of the bedroom to find out what the problem was.

“She saw the suspect armed with a bent panga, and he ordered her to get out. Immediately, the suspect entered the bedroom of the deceased and started stabbing the deceased with the panga several times. Ankuda ran and called Kyasimire Caroline, an immediate neighbour, who responded and found the deceased already dead,” police reported.

According to Kasasira, the suspect had locked himself in his bedroom, and upon opening it, he was found lying down, looking unconscious.

“Near him there was a bottle of an agrochemical and the weapon he used to murder the deceased,” Kasasira added.

The police rushed Babiiha to Itojo Hospital for treatment because it was believed that he had consumed poison after the murder.

According to the Rwizi region territorial police, the murder by stabbing was reported to the Kahunga Police Post in Ntungamo under REF-CRB 1948/2023 on December 15, 2023.

A team of homicide detectives from Ntungamo police station visited the crime scene and fully documented all necessary information, the police stated. The body of Bakasisa was then subjected to a post-mortem at Itojo Hospital.

The couple were married, staying in the same house but sleeping in different bedrooms due to the advanced age of the deceased.
