President Museveni has committed a lot of resources over the past four years to fight the scourge of corruption in government. The commitment to fight it is there, however some members of the government have continuously frustrated these efforts. Museveni himself called them ‘the Nfunilamuwa’ a group he described as unwilling to do any work without receiving kickbacks.

Uganda is not a dictatorship and as thus the president has to go through institutions like the IGG to fight the vice. Others have also blamed the institutions like courts that free suspects when investigations are still ongoing leading to interference.

In recent months alone, the President has fired Executive Directors of a number of institutions like URA, UCC, NIRA appointed a new DPP to help expedite the fight against corruption. This battle cannot be left to the President alone and therefore the citizens themselves need to take it upon themselves to resist all forms corruption.

Earlier in the fight against corona virus, a number of high ranking officials from the Office of the Prime Minister were arrested by the State House Anti Corruption Unit on suspicion of mismanagement in the award of a contract to Aponye foods for the distribution of relief food items. The State House Unit has also carried out more arrests during this period including the arrest of Jinja RDC Sakwa.

Critics of the President allege that little has been achieved but the battle is not only for the President to fight but for Uganda as a society.
