In a determined effort to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) by the year 2030, the National TB and Leprosy Programme (NTLP) has taken a significant step by involving Lango Cultural Leaders in a strategic partnership to enhance collaborative efforts.

The event, presided over by Hon. Jane Ruth Aceng, Minister of Health, on August 10, 2023, is a timely and crucial opportunity to bring together Lango cultural leaders and the NTLP to explore how they may work together to abolish tuberculosis in the region.

According to Aceng, the collaboration is a positive step towards ending TB in Lango, and by working together, Lango cultural leaders and the NTLP can make a real difference in the lives of people affected by TB.

“Lango cultural leaders have a significant influence over their communities, and their support for TB prevention and treatment efforts is essential, which will help to save lives and end TB in this region,” Acheng said.

The NTLP is a programme under the Department of National Disease Control in the Ministry of Health. Its overall functions are to establish country wide quality diagnosis and treatment services for TB and Leprosy and to coordinate the implementation of TB and Leprosy control.

During the event, Aceng presented the people of the Lango district with a cutting-edge Mobile Tuberculosis Vaccination Clinic. The Mobile Clinic will provide free check-ups to people in the local community in an effort to promote accessible healthcare.

According to Aceng, the event is expected to result in a number of commitments from Lango cultural leaders, including supporting the NTLP’s TB control programme, raising awareness of TB in their communities, and advocating for TB patients while working with the NTLP to develop culturally appropriate TB prevention and treatment programmes.
