Four people (yet to be identified) have been confirmed dead after a speeding truck rammed into them along the Jinja-Iganga highway at Bulanga village.

The deceased, whose particulars have not been established, were offloading a stationed truck carrying silver fish that had mechanical problems at Bulanga village.

Eyewitnesses said the truck broke down, prompting the occupants to secure another truck to load silver fish with the help of another six people.

While they were offloading, a speeding truck travelling from Jinja lost control and rammed into the stationary car, killing four instantly.

Police have recorded increasing cases of both fatal and serious motor accidents during this festive season.

According to traffic police, these incidents have been attributed to careless driving, drunk driving, overspending, operating vehicles with dangerous mechanical conditions, and excitement.

As a measure to reduce increasing cases of motor accidents, traffic police recently activated heavy deployment along major highways across the country.
