The United States and Uganda have announced their continued commitment to collective collaboration. The U.S. Ambassador to Uganda, William W. Popp, expressed this commitment during a meeting with Uganda’s Minister for Defense and Veteran Affairs, Jacob Marksons Oboth, at the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya.

During the meeting held yesterday, Ambassador Popp praised the Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces (UPDF) for their unwavering dedication to ensuring security and peace at home and in the region, particularly in their efforts to stabilize Somalia.

“The U.S is committed to working together with Uganda to provide collective support for peace resolutions, and we appreciate the Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces for its continuity in ensuring security and peace at home and in the region, especially in stabilizing Somalia,” stated Ambassador Popp.

Minister Oboth emphasized the importance of deepening the relationship between the two countries based on mutual trust. He also highlighted the significant progress made in combating the Allied Democratic Forces Rebel group, which has posed a threat to the stability of the region.

” We appreciate the US government for its continued support towards regional security and against terrorism,” Minister Oboth expressed.

The Deputy Chief of Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Sam Okiding, further reiterated the need to carefully consider the withdrawal of troops from Somalia in order to maintain the peace and security gains achieved thus far. He emphasized that prematurely removing troops could potentially cause a backslide in all the progress made during the peacekeeping mission led by the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

The discussions held during this meeting reflect the shared commitment of the United States and Uganda in promoting peace and stability within the region. As both countries continue to work together, their collective efforts aim to achieve lasting peace resolutions and contribute to the prosperity of the nations involved.
