Police in Kikuyu have started investigating circumstances that caused the accident collision between a 62-bus seater and a fuel tanker that killed two people and injured ten others along the James-Gichuru Rironi Highway in Kenya.

This tragic accident happened on April 6, 2024, at around 5:30 a.m. at Muguga in Kikuyu due to the bus driver, who lost control and rammed into the fuel tanker that was parked by the road.

According to Ronald Kirui, the Kikuyu Police Commander, the 62-bus seater that rammed into the fuel tanker vehicle belonged to Eldoret Express Company and was heading to Nairobi from the Western region before the incident along the James Gichuru-Rironi Highway.

Kirui also said that police had started investigating what caused the accident because they are not certain what really caused it, despite speculation that the accident might have been caused by poor visibility from fog and slippery roads from the heavy rains, hence why investigations are being carried out.

“As of now, we cannot tell what really caused the accident, but our traffic officers have embarked on investigations so as to find out what really caused this accident,” Kirui revealed.

He added that the two bodies of the deceased had been taken to the Thogoto Hospital mortuary, while the injured were taken to different hospitals in the Kikuyu area.

The wreckage of the two vehicles was towed to Kikuyu Police Station.

Kirui further urged all road users in Kenya to be vigilant while driving and not to overspeed because the roads are now slippery due to the heavy rains that the country is currently experiencing.
