Boda Boda Riders Cautioned on Late Night Road Ambushes

 Police has cautioned Boda-Boda Riders about late-night road ambushes that are being staged by gangs targeting Boda-Boda. This follows incidents where two riders were murdered and their motorcycles taken by the gangs.

While addressing the weekly security brief at Police Headquarter in Naguru, Kampala on Monday, October 2, 2023, SCP Fred Enanga said that three separate aggravated robberies of Boda Boda motorcycle happened in Kayunga, Nwoya.

“So, we want to caution Boda Boda riders about late night road ambushes that are being staged by guns targeting Boda Boda, ” said Enanga.

According to Enanga, in Kayunga, an illegal roadblock was set up along Nakitokolo village along Bbaale Galilaaya Highway, where one Ben Wavamuno, who was riding late at around 10 p.m. with his brother Mesach Mumpia on their new motorcycle UFR 907Y, was hit during the ambush.

“One Ben Wawamono died on the spot. His brother managed to escape from the scene and when police responded from Kasokwe police post. We found there was another victim identified as John Musinguzi, who was found lying unconscious and his motorcycle robbed,” Enanga said.

Enanga said that another incident happened in Nwoya district, where a gang attacked Okello Dickian at his home in Adoga Aswa village, hit him, and also robbed his motorcycle.

The third incident occurred in Kaliro district at around 11 p.m., where Kiraga Moses and Isabirye Samuel, who were riding home on motorcycle registration number UFX 475S, were attacked leaving one dead and the other severly injured.

“They were riding home from Nawaikoke village, proceeding to Kaliro, when they fell into an ambush at Kafumbikara village, where the rider was hit with a rod and killed, and the motorcycle was robbed,” Enanga said.

Additionally, Isabirye was found in a critical condition and was rushed into Bumanya Health Centre IV for treatment.

Police continue to warn Boda-Boda users that late-night operations are risky and perhaps fatal; therefore, they should exercise extreme caution when operating their companies at night.
