Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested a teen who brutally murdered a woman from Nansana in Wakiso district.

The suspect has been identified as Daniel Sematimba, aged 17 and a resident of Kyebando, who murdered a lady, cut her into pieces with a machete, and later dumped her body at the rubbish pit.

The identity of the lady who was brutally murdered is still unknown; however, what is known is that she was a resident of Ganda village in Nansana, Wakiso district.

According to police preliminary investigations, Sematimba committed this atrocious act on April 17, 2024, and disappeared after committing the deed; however, police have been on a manhunt for him until he was arrested in Kansanga.

During an interview with journalists on May 1, 2024, Christopher Muyimbwa, the local defence of Nansana Gganda, said that Sematimba has been arrested on May 1, 2024, at around 2:00 am in Kansanga due to a tip from security operatives.

Muyimbwa added that on the day the deceased died, Sematimba seduced her, then took her to his house in Kyebando, where he drugged her, then got a machete, cut her into pieces, cleaned the house to remove evidence, wrapped her body parts in a polythene bag, dumped the polythene bag at the rubbish pit, covered it with a blanket, then ran away from Kyebando to avoid being arrested.

He added that since the suspect left Kyebando, he has been staying in churches for shelter until he decided to go stay with his sister in Kansanga, where he was detained.

’’We have been able to arrest the suspect due to the tips from security operatives who have been on a manhunt for him. We first went to some church in Mutundwe, but he was not there. Later, we got a tip that he was in a flat in Kansanga, and when we reached there, he was apprehended and taken to police,’’ Muyimbwa revealed.

Muyimbwa also said that when the suspect’s sister was asked if she knew what her brother had done, she told them that she did not, which was confirmed by the suspect, who revealed that the only person who knew about his crime was their mother.

The local defence further thanked the security operatives for their great work and urged citizens not to cover up for those who commit crime.

“Please do not cover for criminals because once you do so, you become an accomplice, which leads to your arrest too,” Muyimbwa stated.

According to police, it is still unknown why the suspect murdered the deceased; however, he is currently at the Nansana Ganda police cell as police investigations are ongoing.
