Police in Sheema are hunting for a 40-year-old man for impregnating and defiling his own 16-year-old daughter.
SCP Fred Enanga, while speaking at the police headquarters at Naguru, stated that the suspect identified as Nelson Tumusime, a resident of Kagangu Cell, who turned his 16-year-old daughter and a primary-three pupil into a wife and started defiling her.
“At around August 2023, when the daughter started getting complications, body complications, they went to the hospital in Sheema, and she was found to be pregnant,” Enanga said.
Enanga noted that during the medical check-up, the father, upon learning that the daughter was pregnant, escaped from the hospital. But the police have put up a serious manhunt for him.
He stated that the police are handling the victim and counselling her, but the incident clearly reveals how some male parents continue to be a danger to their daughters. And instead of giving them protection, they end up taking advantage of them.
According to the United Nations Population Fund (2020), the number of cases of defilement victims in girls is 1280 between the ages of 0 and 8, and 120 girls were defiled by their own parents by 2020.
