An ADF rebel has surrendered himself to the police and UPDF security operatives in Rubirizi District.

According to Police Spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga, a one Byaruhanga William aged 30 walked to security operatives and introduced himself as an ADF rebel on Sunday, September 10, 2023.

“We have an ADF collaborator in Rubirizi who yesterday handed himself to the joint security agencies in the district,” Enanga said.

Enanga said that Byaruhanga is a born of Busunga Town Council who joined the ADF at a tender age, and he managed to cross from DRC to Rubirizi District, where he surrendered.

He urged other rebels to surrender, just like Byarugaba, because being arrested brings about heavy punishment.

“We want to encourage all other ADF members who are crossing to Uganda because of the pressure in DRC to also surrender to the joint security agencies before they are arrested and charged,” Enanga added.

Byaruhanga was transferred from Rubirizi District and is currently being held at Makenke Army Barracks in Mbarara District. Enanga sent an informant to security so they could intercept more rebels before they cause harm.

According to the commander of ‘Operation Shujaa, Maj. Gen. Dick Olum, Uganda and the DR Congo armed forces have killed over 530 ADF rebels since November 31, 2021.
