The East African Court of Justice-EACJ is set to hold court sessions in Uganda for a period of one month to hear and determine cases arising from Member states.

This will be the first time that the EACJ is holding court sessions in Uganda since its establishment in November 2001.

The sessions will be held at the High Court Commercial Division in Kampala.

The sessions will involve the hearing of the newly filed cases, and appeals arising from the previous judgements, as well as the delivery of the rulings on several complaints raised against the EAC member states.

The first Deputy Prime-minister and the Minister in-charge of East Africa Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga says it was agreed upon last year by the EAC member states that the EACJ should start rotational sittings among all the member States.

This is to ensure that Justice is easily accessible across the whole region.

“Uganda is now the second country within the region to host the court following Bujumbura in Burundi last year,” Minister Kadaga said.

Kadaga also said that on October 26th the EACJ will hold a Conference in Kampala where they will determine when the sessions will begin.

“This will be part of the series of activities that will come after the East African Court of Justice Conference slated for October 26th in Kampala,” Kadaga said.
