Uganda Police has confirmed that it apprehended and detained 40 people along Entebbe and Gayaza Roads on Thursday, October 5, 2023, during a security operation.

According to SSP Patrick Onyango, the Public Relations Officer, Kampala Metropolitan Police, in a press statement on October 6, 2023, the operation was a success and concluded peacefully.

SSP Onyango said that the joint deployments, including both overt and covert officers, were strategically positioned, and snap checkpoints were established on all roads leading to Entebbe and along Gayaza Road.

He stated that police, during the operation, arrested a total of 40 suspects, including Member of Parliament for Busiro, South Hon. Matovu Charles.

“The suspects were apprehended for inciting violence. Various items intended for use in processions, such as red berets, handheld megaphone speakers, and white and red T-shirts branded “Kunga Uganda,” were recovered and exhibited,” Onyango said.

However, the police statement is contrary to the NUP Party President’s statement.

According to Robert Kyagulanyi, security forces arrested over 300 people in Kampala and Wakiso.

Onyango stated that relevant statements were taken, and all 40 arrested suspects underwent fingerprinting and profiling.

The individuals will face charges in court as operations persist.
