Tinubu Declared Nigeria’s President Elect

Nigeria’s ruling party candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu,70, has become Nigeria’s new President-elect becoming the country’s fifth president since the end of military rule.

According to Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu, Tinubu of All Progressive Congress (APC) secured nearly 8.8 million votes, 35% of votes cast.

Opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) came in second position with 7 million votes (28%) while Labor Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi came in third with 6.1 million votes (24%) in the official results.

Tinubu Bola Ahmed, of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and is returned elected,” said Yakubu.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be succeeding outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari who has been president of Nigeria since 2015.
