Five Held Over Attacking UPDF Soldiers, Civilian in Gulu

Security officials in Gulu City have arrested five members of a notorious criminal gang who attacked and injured three UPDF soldiers and one civilian on Sunday, January 1st, 2023.

According to Peter Banya, the Gulu City Deputy Resident City Commissioner in charge of Pece-Laroo Division, the soldiers were attacked at a drinking joint in Kanyagoga A cell in Bardege-Layibi Division by suspected city gangsters who used machetes and hammers to clobber them.

Banya said the investigation into the incident has kicked off and so far one key suspect who was injured during the scuffle is under close security surveillance and receiving medical treatment in handcuffs.

The soldiers are attached to the 4th Division Infantry Barracks in Gulu City.

Nindra Patrick, the 4th Division Operations and Training Officer, said the injured soldiers are currently receiving medical treatments.

“Two of the injured soldiers are receiving medical treatment at the military barracks, while another one with severe injuries was admitted at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital, together with one civilian who was also injured during the scuffle,” Nindra said.
