While attending a recent burial of Dr Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere who was laid to rest at his ancestral home Nattale in Nkumba, Entebbe, shocking scenes of Chaos unveiled among National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders as Bobi Wine’s body guard rushed to spray him with what was identified as anti-poison spray.
The act of spraying Bobi Wine with an anti- poison detergent followed the late arrival of Busiro South MP Charles Matovu to the burial ceremony who walked directly to the NUP president holding a handkerchief which he allegedly used to poison him.
According to the witnesses at the burial, the NUP leadership was sceptical and ordered the bodyguard to use the anti- Poison on Bobi wine just in case Hon. Matovu made an attempt on the party leader’s life.
Some of the mourners that attended the burial, have accounted that the burial ceremony went on peacefully until NUP President Bob Wine arrived and the area MP who was supposed to receive him was nowhere to be seen. He arrived with his bodyguards and was received in the VIP tent sitting just three metres away from Uganda’s premier at the right side.
Witnesses say that when Hon. Matovu finally arrived and exchanged a greeting with Bobi Wine, the murmuring and whispers became evident and, in a few minutes, it was posted all over NUP social media platforms that Matovu had been hired to poison Bob wine from the burial.
Sources from NUP headquarters in Kamwokya said that they did not take the matter lightly. “Photographs and videos of Hon. Matovu’s interaction with our president at the burial are being analysed and a case will be filed should we find him guilty, “a source said.
Political science Dons from Makerere University have said that the National Unity Platform is marred with bickering and mistrust among themselves, a thing that may lead to their short-term fall.
The burial of late Ssemogerere is one among many that the NUP party leaders were involved in politicking even after the request of the aggrieved family to keep politics out of the send-off of the deceased.
The NUP leadership that was present at the burial tried to lament over the gun salutes that were accorded to the deceased against the will of the family, however the discussion about gun salute was concluded that the Constitutional law had to preside over and therefore the deceased deserved the state burial which was fully funded by the government to a tune of over 200 Million.
