The Ministry of Education and Sports has invested a total of Shs63.6 billion in the procurement of textbooks to support the implementation of the Revised Lower Secondary Curriculum. The State Minister for Primary Education, Moriku Kaducu, stated that the countrywide distribution of textbooks for the new Curriculum is set to cover 4,500 public and private secondary schools.

The Minister revealed that 13 suppliers are distributing the final batch of S. 1 and S. 2 textbooks, making a total of the target 8.6 million copies for 19 subjects at a cost of Shs 30.7 billion. 15 suppliers have embarked on the distribution of 6.9 million copies of S. 3 and S. 4 learner textbooks complete with teacher’s guides for the same curriculum at a cost of Shs 32.9 billion.

Kaducu asked learners and parents from both public and private secondary schools not to pay for the books because the government is covering the cost.
