UPDF Recovers Stolen Cattle In Abim District

Yesterday the 9th of February 2023, the Uganda Peoples Defence forces (UPDF) recovered 24 cows which had been stolen from the grazing ground around Apeikidor corridor located under Arengedwat cell Kawang ward Alerek town council in Abim District.

At around 02:08pm unknown persons suspected to be Jie herdsmen stole the livestock’s and took the direction towards Bii thing hill. 

The Apeikidor UPDF barracks was alerted and moved to location for recovery. 22 cows where recovered around the foot of Biithing hill located under the same address and the twomissing livestock’s where further recovered from Okono located under Rwoth cell Kawangward Alerek t/c.

All this was done through cooperation of the locals and the UPDF who worked hand in hand to recover the missing cattle. 

The cows belonged to the kraal of OwilliMathew of Kawang cell Kawang ward Alerekt/c. 

The UPDF 3rd Division Commander, Brig Gen Joseph Balikudembe guided that this therefore serves as an information that communities should be on alert inclusive of the friendlies on ground in different points.” He said. 

In the past, there have been many reported cases of cattle rustling in Karamoja region but in the recent months the situation seems to be normalizing after the deployment of UPDF in the region to curb the insecurity caused by cattle rustling.
