The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces together with their Congolese counterparts FARDC forces have entered ADF main camp in Beni, Eastern DR Congo.

A security source reveals that the two joint military forces today Wednesday entered Kambi ya Yua camp which is also the terror group headquarters.

The UPDF and FARDC had spent two days walking in the thick forests in order to access the base comprising of many camps.

The army is yet to make a statement about the development.

This comes after the UPDF artillery and airstrikes blistered 3 more ADF camps on Tuesday where they were trying to regroup. Unspecified number of the fighters was also killed in the strike.

“Today, the Joint forces advanced to “contact” at objective KAMBIYAYU. Three additional enemy positions were targeted by air & artillery strikes. The ground forces are also engaging the enemy in the same area,” UPDF Spokesperson Brigadier Flavia Bwekwaso said on Tuesday.

Ever since the joint military forces started conducting operations, over 60 ADF fighters have so far surrendered to the joint forces.

Security has since beefed deployment along borders to avert possible enemy entrance into the country.

Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the UPDF Commander Land Force last week warned the few surviving ADF fighters and commanders to surrender before it’s late.

He says the rebels could still be pardoned and reunited with their families under the Amnesty Act.
