UPDF Engineers Brigade on Track to Complete 163 Infrastructure Projects by End of 2023

On Thursday, August 2, 2023, Maj. Gen. Henry Masiko, the chairperson of the Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, led a team of senior UPDF officers to ascertain the readiness of the construction works at Entebbe Internal Airport, Kajjansi National Medical Stores Oxygen Plant Base, and Mandela National Stadium.

During his speech to the Officers, Maj. Gen. Masiko commended the UPDF leadership and the troop Engineers for agreeing to undertake the social-economic transformation of communities,” Maj. Gen. Masiko said.

He further said that the UPDF is a pro-people Force, always ready to sacrifice for the sustainability of peace, stability, and transformation.

The team’s report indicates that the construction of Entebbe International Airport’s new arrivals terminal is about 85% complete, with completion scheduled for September 2023.

According to Maj. Gen. Masiko, at Kajjansi National Medical Stores Oxygen Plant Base, work is also about 85% done, and the project includes a cylinder store, office block, among others.

“The new projects at this site include the construction of a cylinder store and office block, tarmac inside roads, paving, and fencing of the premises,” he added.

In addition, Maj. Gen. Masiko said that Mandela National Stadium’s reconstruction and upgrade were noted as agreeable.

“The renovations, which commenced on August 1, 2021, will allow a modern seating pattern for about 39,981 football fans, and a 3-Star hotel with 66 rooms is being reconstructed. This UGX 64 billion sports complex is slated for completion around November 2023,” he said.

In order to fulfill the Presidential directive that envisioned advantages such as timely construction, quality and low-cost structures, the UPDF Engineers Brigade is overseeing all infrastructural development under the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health.

Maj. Gen. Masiko was accompanied by Col. David Muhanguzi, Col. Patrick Semakula, Col. Fulgence Mayiga, and Lt. Col. Godfrey K. Tukamwakira, among others.

The Monitoring and Evaluation Committee is a body charged with the responsibility of foreseeing all projects undertaken by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineers Brigade.
