Uganda’s Weightlifters Davis Niyiyota and Lydia Nakidde Set to Make Waves at the 2024 IWF World Cup in Thailand

Uganda’s weight-lifters Davis Niyiyota and Lydia Nakidde will be representing Uganda at the 2024 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Cup in Phuket City, Thailand.

The companionship is scheduled for March 31st – April 11th, 2024, and it will also be a possible opportunity for all those aiming at Olympic participation next year in Paris.

Davis Niyiyota won three medals at the just concluded 13th African Games in Accra Ghana where Uganda won a total of 20 medals. Four gold medals, Six Silver, and Ten Bronze medals.

Niyiyota secured two silver medals in the clean and jerk as well as one bronze in the snatch competition under the 55 kg category.

Lydia Nakidde also competed at the African Games but missed out in the medal brackets, she was fourth in the 87 Kg category of clean & jerk as well as snatch.

The two athletes will be joined by their head coach, Khasimu Nsubuga, and the president of the Uganda Weightlifting Federation (UWF), Hajji Salim Musoke.
