Uganda is on the brink of a groundbreaking leap into the digital age, as it gears up for the launch of its inaugural Digital Transformation Roadmap. Anticipation is building as the nation prepares for the unveiling of this momentous initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance (MoICT&NG) and the Ministry of Education & Sports. Backed by the United Nations Development Program Uganda (UNDP) and Centenary Technology Services (Cente-Tech), the roadmap is set to be revealed on August 17th, 2023, with Vice President H.E. Jessica Rose Epel Alupo officiating.

The forthcoming Digital Transformation Roadmap symbolises a new era of promise and optimism for Uganda. Its primary objective is to wield digital technology as a levelling force between rural and urban populations. Rooted in inclusivity and empowerment, the roadmap is designed to bridge the longstanding digital gap that has hindered marginalised communities. By harnessing the potential of digital technology, Uganda aims to empower individuals, businesses, and communities, fostering participation in the digital economy and facilitating access to essential services that elevate livelihoods.

Dr. Aminah Zawedde, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT, underscored the significance of this roadmap: “Uganda’s first Digital Transformation Roadmap launch is a moment of national pride and optimism. This transformative blueprint is our commitment to creating a future where digital technology bridges the divide between rural and urban citizens, ensuring that no one is left behind in our pursuit of progress and prosperity.”

Central to the roadmap’s ethos is the concept of inclusivity and empowerment, with a targeted focus on narrowing the digital chasm that has historically disadvantaged remote and marginalised communities. By unlocking the latent potential of digital technology, the roadmap aims to embolden individuals, businesses, and communities, enabling them to actively engage in the digital economy and access vital services that enhance quality of life.

UNDP’s strategic vision, “Creating a world in which digital is an empowering force for people and planet,” resonates seamlessly with Uganda’s vision for the transformative roadmap. With UNDP’s support, Uganda is poised to unlock the limitless possibilities of digital technology, propelling sustainable development and societal progress that positively impacts both humanity and the environment.

As the launch date approaches, palpable excitement ripples through citizens, industry leaders, and development partners alike, all eagerly awaiting the unveiling of Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap. Uganda’s unwavering resolve to embrace digital transformation as a catalyst for progress and inclusivity stands as a testament to its commitment to sculpting a brighter future for all.

Curated by UNDP Uganda with technical expertise from Centenary Technology Services, the roadmap showcases the collaborative prowess of both entities. Renowned for their prowess in digital transformation, Centenary Technology Services has played a pivotal role in shaping the roadmap, tailored to address Uganda’s unique challenges and catalyse growth across sectors.

With the roadmap as a guiding beacon, Uganda prepares to embark on an unprecedented odyssey of innovation and prosperity, heralding an era where digital technology empowers and uplifts every citizen, transcending backgrounds and locations.

As the world eagerly awaits the roadmap’s revelation, one truth remains crystal clear: Uganda’s digital transformation is poised to redefine the paradigm of inclusive progress, setting a remarkable example for nations worldwide to emulate.
