UEFA President in Uganda for a National Visit

On Tuesday March 14thAleksander Ceferin, the President of Union of European Football Association (UEFA) and members of his entourage arrived in Uganda for courtesy visit to the Aliguma foundation at the Acholi Quarters in Banda, Kampala.

At Entebbe Airport, Aleksander was welcomed by Peter Ogwang the state minister for sports and Rita Aliguma, the CEO of the Aliguma Foundation, before he heads to Rwanda for the FIFA Congress on Thursday.

According to Aleksander the UEFA children foundation supports the Aliguma Foundation which prompted the visit to Uganda. 

“Our foundation for children is supporting the Aliguma Foundation, so I decided to come and see what exactly is happening here in Uganda in regards to the development,” he said.

According to Aleksander, African football has developed a lot, and the players are great, but there is a chronic problem with infrastructure, and there is need for coaches and academies. He also added that there is need to work with children.

The minister, Ogwang, openly expressed gratitude upon receiving such a high-profile guest.

It is my singular honour to receive and welcome the President of @UEFA, Mr. Aleksander Ceferin who is in Uganda. It is a noble privilege to have you here for the first time. I am optimistic that your visit will breathe new life and hope for our underprivileged young talent,” he twitted.

The group is visiting Aliguma Foundation and later will meet the first lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni.
