Sixteen people have been seriously injured in an accident that occurred in Nakasongola, along the Kampala-Gulu highway, on January 9, 2023, at around 10 p.m.

According to police, the accident involving a bus registration number UAR 655M (Isuzu) and belonging to Valley Bus Company Limited occurred in Bamusuta Cell, Katugo Town Council.

Police confirmed that the bus, which was coming from Gulu and heading to Kampala, overturned after the driver lost control.

Police said that 16 passengers that were on board got serious injuries and were rushed to Nakasongola Health Centre IV, St. Franciscan Health Centre IV, and Kasana Hospital in Luwero for proper medication.

The police preliminary findings indicate that the cause of the accident has been attributed to reckless driving.

On January 9, 2023, the Traffic Police Spokesperson, ASP Faridah Nampiima, issued strict rules to all bus drivers. Among them was the fact that the department of traffic was going to resume the crackdown on buses without route signs. The bus drivers will be required to have identification badges that contain their personal credentials, the class of the driving permit with the permit number, as well as the bus company they are attached to, to help in monitoring.
