The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in liaison with the Criminal Investigative Directorate, has arraigned Charles Malinde, a Senior Assistant Engineering Officer, Tororo District, before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of causing financial loss to the government and embezzlement. He has been remanded until May 23, 2023.

He appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Moses Nabende on Thursday, May 18, 2023.

In Financial Year 2021/22, the accused, while assigned as Project Manager for the construction of Kagera Bridge in Tororo Municipality, allegedly failed to exercise his responsibility, causing a financial loss of over UGX16 million. He also allegedly embezzled UGX3.6 million meant for Kagera Bridge culverts.

Despite Malinde’s attorneys’ best efforts, Nabende gave them instructions to file a bail application in the next week due to his hectic court schedule.

For every accusation leveled against Malinde, he entered a not-guilty plea.
