The Joint Security Agencies undertook a counter-terror operation in Buikwe district on Monday, May 1st, 2023, arresting three people linked with the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terror network.

According to SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, the suspects have been identified as Sheikh Yasin Ssenyonga, Abubakari Katakuwange, and Juma Kabogere Mwinomuze. They were arrested in Kisungu zone, Namwezi, Mbiiko Njeru division.

“As the Joint Security Agencies, we have intensified operations against any persons linked to acts of terrorism. We continue to monitor all spaces in homes, places of worship, and businesses that are acting as domains for the recruitment and coordination of terror activities,” he stated.

Enanga also dismissed claims that the suspects were arrested because of their religious affiliations but rather because of their connections to crime.

“We also want to reiterate that the arrested persons are not arrested for their beliefs, ideology, or religion but for their alleged involvement in violent hostilities of terrorism,” Enanga stated.

Police also want to remind Ugandans to reject all forms of terrorism by being extra vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.

The Joint Security Agencies continue to conduct counter-terrorism operations against terrorists, their agents, operatives, and collaborators.

The suspects are currently in the custody of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) as investigations continue.
