The High Court Civil Division has, on Monday, April 24, 2023, declared Nsereko Mohammed as the duly elected Member of Parliament representing Kampala Central constituency in the 11th Parliament.

The Court presided over by Justice Jessy Byaruhanga dismissed the petition filed by the National Unity Platform Party-NUP candidate, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, challenging Nsereko’s victory on the grounds that it lacks evidence and ordered him to pay UGX 38 million as compensation costs.

“The petitioner didn’t provide sufficient evidence of the respondent’s non-compliance with the electoral laws,” Part of the ruling reads.

MP Nsereko welcomed the court ruling and promised his supporters better services and an effective representation in Parliament.

“The expectations our supporters have of us are service delivery, presenting their views on the floor of Parliament with facts, and finding solutions to our daily challenges,” Nsereko stated after the court ruling in his favor.

He also advised his political rival not to lose hope but rather to drop his ego and join him to serve the people of Kampala Central.

“To those that have lost today, hope isn’t over for you, and if you indeed want to serve the people of Kampala, go to them, and probably they will vote for you next time. But if you insist on playing politics or drama for individual benefit, it will not work,” Nsereko said.

Nsereko received 16,998 votes against Nyanzi’s 15,975 votes during the January 2021 Parliamentary elections, but Nyanzi later petitioned the High Court seeking the nullification of this victory.
